Nike confirm that England Women's Goalkeeper shirts will be available to buy following backlash

Sportswear giant Nike has released a statement that the England Women's Goalkeeper shirt, worn by Mary Earps during the recent World Cup, will be available for fans to buy.

Earps was critical of the brand heading into the tournament as her shirt was not made available for purchase for fans.

There was a strong backlash from media and fans alike, with it believed that Nike didn't consider goalkeeper jerseys as part of their 'commercial strategy'.

They have however now confirmed they will be selling a limited number of Earp's shirt in statement which said:

"We've seen and share the unprecedented passion and interest in women's football this year and remain committed to playing our part by offering the best products and services to athletes and fans. We invested more in this year's World Cup than any other global tournament to date.

"Nike has secured limited quantities of goalkeeper jerseys for England, US, France, and the Netherlands to be sold through the federation websites over the coming days, and we are also in conversations with our other federation partners.

"We recognise that during the tournament we didn't serve those fans who wished to show their passion and support to the squad's goalkeepers. We are committed to retailing women's goalkeeping jerseys for major tournaments in the future."

Earps won the Golden Glove at the Women's World Cup and saved a penalty in the final which England ultimately lost 1-0 to Spain.
