Panjab Warriors Complete Takeover of Morecambe

Morecambe FC have confirmed that the Panjab Warriors consortium has completed its takeover of the club, ending a turbulent summer for the National League side.

The announcement came on the same day the National League cleared the Shrimps to begin their season, after approving the deal and confirming the suspension imposed on the club would be lifted once paperwork from the sale was finalised.

Morecambe had been unable to play their opening three fixtures due to that suspension. On Sunday evening, outgoing owners Bond Group confirmed the change in control, stating: “Bond Group Investments can now confirm that it has sold its majority shareholding in Morecambe Football Club to Panjab Warriors.”

The club will remain under a transfer embargo until all football creditors — including staff, players and HMRC — are paid from the proceeds of the takeover.

Morecambe, relegated from the EFL last season amid mounting financial difficulties, are now set to host Altrincham on Saturday in their long-delayed season opener.

The sale ends a lengthy saga that saw the club placed on the market in 2022. Panjab Warriors had already gained EFL approval for their takeover in June, but the deal stalled despite both sides announcing agreed terms the following month.

The uncertainty prompted interventions from senior politicians, with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy urging Bond Group chief Jason Whittingham to sell, while Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called for those involved to “do the right thing”.

With the takeover now complete, the focus turns back to the pitch as Morecambe begin a new chapter under fresh ownership.
