Plymouth Argyle Start Redundancy Consultations

Up to 20 roles could be made redundant at Plymouth Argyle as the League One club tries to stem financial losses.

Accounts lodged with Companies House in December showed owner Simon Hallett lent the club £9.8m after relegation from the Championship last season.

Their 2024/25 season in the Championship saw a record wage bill of around £18m but following relegation to League One they will see a significant reduction in broadcast revenue this season.

The club is currently 10th in the third tier and has seen many of the side that were at the club last season depart either on a permanent basis or on loan.

"The club can confirm it has proposed to staff a restructure of its operations," Argyle said in a statement to BBC Sport.

"In the past four years, the club has progressed in many areas. However, the return to League One, coupled with wider inflationary pressures, has resulted in the club incurring significant financial losses.

"This is being proposed in order to address significant financial pressures, and to assist the club in trying to ensure long-term sustainability."
