Plymouth Argyle Win Community Club of the Season at EFL Awards
Operating across some of Plymouth’s most deprived neighbourhoods, Argyle Community Trust has delivered a truly outstanding year of impact during the 2024/25 season.
The Trust supported 101,218 people, aged from just four months to 100 years old, delivering more than one million contact hours. Crucially, over half of all participants came from the most deprived communities in the country.
At the centre of its work is Project 35, now in its fourth year, continuing to combat poverty at scale. Over the past season, the initiative distributed ten tonnes of food, supported by 820 volunteer hours, and provided more than 50,000 essential items to families in need.
Health and wellbeing programmes engaged 1,362 people, achieving a combined 1,734kg of weight loss, while inclusive disability sessions generated over 3,100 attendances.
The Trust also delivered 12,693 hours of education and employability support to 1,332 young people, 65 per cent of whom came from high-deprivation communities. Holiday hunger provision ensured 1,890 children receiving free school meals had access to nutritious food and safe, engaging activities.
The opening of a new community hub at Foulston Park has further strengthened provision for veterans and disabled residents, while innovative programmes such as Mum’s Stay & Play, ACTing with Children, YEP! and Argyle 4 Autism continue to address emerging needs.
Dwain Morgan, Head of Business and Impact at Plymouth at Argyle Community Trust, said: "We're over the moon to win the award. There are charities and Clubs up and down the country doing wonderful work, and to be named Community Club of the Year is really humbling. It's a great end to a fantastic year.
"This year has been a real milestone year for us - for the first time ever we've had over one million engagement hours, we've seen over 100,000 different people across Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth, and we' ve also invested circa 5 million pounds in tuning an old run down leisure centre into a community health and wellbeing hub.
"Football Clubs are well positioned to do wonderful work across their communities. Wearing that badge, that brand, allows you to make such a massive impact. The communities of Devon, Plymouth and beyond are so lucky to have a Football Club that backs them, and we're really humble to be in that position."
