Premier League confirm domestic radio rights

The Premier League have awarded the domestic radio rights to the BBC and TalkSport on an extended 3 season deal.

The deals, running across the 2022-23 to 2024-25 seasons, see the BBC pick up four of the seven rights packages on offer, with TalkSport acquiring the remaining three.

The seven packages provide live audio commentary rights to all Premier League matches, aside from Saturday 3pm fixtures not selected as first or second pick and those matches not selected for audio broadcast on the final day of each season.

The BBC has secured the Saturday 3pm (first pick), Saturday 5:30pm, Sunday 2pm and Sunday 4:30pm packages.

TalkSport has landed the Saturday 3pm (second pick), Saturday 12:30pm and Friday/Monday 7:30pm-8pm packages. The latter package includes any displaced fixtures played midweek, a new addition for the broadcaster.

Premier League chief media officer, Paul Molnar, said: “We are very pleased to continue working with the BBC and TalkSport as they demonstrate that live Premier League football remains an important fixture in UK audio programming schedules.

“The quality in coverage from both broadcasters over the years has been excellent, and we look forward to working with them again for the next three seasons.”

In October, TalkSport agreed a three-year extension to its exclusive international audio rights package with the Premier League. The new contract will run across the 2022-23 to 2024-25 cycle, with TalkSport continuing as the Premier League’s global audio rights-holder – a role it has fulfilled since 2012.

The agreement enables the broadcaster to distribute official live audio commentaries of Premier League matches to all countries around the world, outside of the UK and Ireland, with coverage presented by TalkSport in multiple languages.

In April 2019, the BBC and TalkSport extended their domestic Premier League rights for three seasons until the end of the 2021-22 season. The BBC and TalkSport acquired four packages and three packages of rights, respectively.

TalkSport’s international rights deal was also previously extended until the end of the 2021-22 season.
