Rangers Appoint Stig Inge Bjørnebye as Football Consultant Ahead of January Transfer Window
Rangers have appointed former Norway international Stig Inge Bjørnebye as a football consultant and advisor on an initial six-month agreement.
The former Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool and Norway defender has started work immediately and will report directly to chairman Andrew Cavenagh. Bjørnebye is expected to support the club during a transitional period following recent changes behind the scenes.
Rangers remain without a permanent sporting director after Kevin Thelwell’s departure, while chief executive Patrick Stewart also left the club at the same time. Fraser Thornton is currently covering the CEO role on an interim basis.
Bjørnebye brings extensive experience from both playing and executive roles. After a career in England and Norway, he went on to work as Norway assistant coach and later head coach at IK Start. He also held sporting director positions at Rosenborg, where he previously played, and Danish club Aarhus.
The appointment comes with the January transfer window approaching, with Bjørnebye expected to play a role in football operations and recruitment discussions during his consultancy period.
On the pitch, Rangers sit third in the Scottish Premiership after a 1-0 win over Hibernian on Monday. Philippe Clement’s side travel to league leaders Hearts on Sunday before two further home fixtures ahead of the transfer window opening.
