Sunderland Report £40.3m Revenue
Sunderland have reported turnover of £40.3m in their latest financial accounts for the year ending 31st July 2025.
The figure represents a £2.1m increase on the previous year, driven by continued growth in commercial and matchday revenues, alongside strengthened partnerships.
The accounts cover Sunderland’s final season in the Championship before their promotion to the Premier League and show the club generated the highest revenue of any second-tier side not receiving parachute payments.
Sunderland Limited recorded an operating loss of £1.1m, a £7.0m improvement on the previous year, reflecting ongoing investment in the club’s long-term strategy, particularly its player trading model.
Player trading proved a major financial driver, generating £45.8m in profit, including early deals completed during the 2025 summer transfer window. This reduced the club’s overall operating loss to £0.3m.
Changes to Sunderland’s retail business model also contributed to improved finances, lowering cost of sales and increasing gross profit by £3.7m to £38.8m.
Matchday income rose significantly, with gate receipts increasing by 14.3% to £13.3m, supported by strong season ticket sales. Sponsorship revenue also saw substantial growth, rising 67% to £3.9m.
The club’s chief finance officer, Mike Papadimitriou, said: “Sunderland AFC’s 2024-25 financial statements reflect strong performance across key revenue streams, underpinned by the club’s fundamental strengths – the Stadium of Light, an engaged and passionate supporter base and a strong connection with the city.
“These foundations position the club well to capitalise on the increased exposure and commercial opportunities that accompany Premier League football.”
