Chelsea V Man City: Champions League final the climax to football's strangest season

The Champions League Final on Saturday evening marks for most the end of what has been the most surreal season of football in living memory.

As two English sides in Chelsea and Manchester City fight it out for club football's biggest prize, it will be the final act of what has at times felt like a relentless campaign across all the leagues.

Whilst the idea of being able to watch a football match basically every day might be a dream come true for diehard fans, some have declared football fatigue, and will be glad of the (somewhat short) break before the delayed Euros gets underway in June.

City go in to the tie as favourites, sweeping aside all comers to win the Premier League and dominating some of Europe's best to reach their first ever final.

Chelsea however, already beaten finalists in the FA Cup, will point to their record against City under manager Thomas Tuchel, who has beaten City twice since taking charge in January.

A limited number of fans are allowed to attend the game in Portugal, and seeing fans back in the stadium for the final games of the Premier League season hopefully points to return to normality next season.

The absence of fans has perhaps been the biggest difference this season, with the often eerie atmospheres in some grounds a sad reminder of the situation we all find ourselves in.

Whatever the outcome on Saturday, it will live long in the memory for many of us as final act of the season where the fans were absent yet the football was constant.
