Dumbarton FC Takeover Confirmed
Dumbarton Football Club has officially changed ownership following its relegation from Scottish League One, with Canadian electronics entrepreneur Mario Lapointe completing the acquisition of the historic club.
Dumbarton, one of Scotland’s oldest football institutions founded in 1872, endured a turbulent season that ended in relegation to League Two after finishing bottom of the table. The club also suffered a 15-point deduction for entering administration.
Earlier this month, administrators Quantuma confirmed that the original club would be dissolved and replaced with a new entity — Dumbarton Football Club 1872 Ltd — which is now wholly owned by Lapointe.
A deal was struck with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) to ensure the club’s continued participation in the league system, with Dumbarton confirmed to take a place in League Two for the 2025–26 season.
