Football set to receive £28m from the government

The government has announced a rescue package of £300m of emergency funding for sports impacted by the absence of spectators because of coronavirus.

As part of the ‘Sport Winter Survival Package’ from the government clubs across Step 1-6 of non-league will receive £25 million between them.

The announcement states that support will be provided to a number of sports, which includes non-league. The funding will largely be composed of loans but some grants will be available.

The allocation for football is as follows:

Steps 1-2: £11 million. This follows the announcement that National League clubs at Steps 1-2 would receive £10 million National Lottery funding to keep them afloat up to the end of 2020.

Steps 3-6: £14 million

Women’s football (Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship): £3 million
