Rotherham United have reported a pre-tax loss of £4.65m for the 2024–25 season following their relegation from the Championship.

The Millers finished bottom of the second tier in the 2023–24 campaign before dropping into League One, where they ended last season in 13th place, missing out on an immediate return.

In an effort to stabilise finances, the club sold key players during the summer, including goalkeeper Viktor Johansson to Stoke City and midfielder Oliver Rathbone to Wrexham.

However, both financial and on-field struggles have continued into the current season. Following the recent dismissal of head coach Matt Hamshaw, Rotherham sit 22nd in League One, six points from safety with eight games remaining.

The club’s financial results reflect the impact of relegation, particularly a sharp decline in revenue streams associated with dropping out of the Championship.

In a statement, Rotherham said: “Following our relegation from the Championship at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, the club has faced various challenges, the headline of which has undoubtedly been its turnover being reduced to £10.5m – a figure that stood at £19.2m in 2024.

"Despite the necessary adjustments being made to ensure a competitive first-team playing budget for the 2024-25 campaign, the club reported a loss before tax of £4.65m as we adapted to operating at League One level and the revenue streams associated with it.”
