Leicester City CEO Steps Down From Role
Leicester City have announced that chief executive Susan
Whelan has left the club after 15 years in the role.
Whelan oversaw the Foxes’ rise from the Championship to an
extraordinary Premier League title win in 2015-16, as well as their first FA
Cup triumph in 2021 and a historic Champions League campaign.
However, her tenure ended amid a more turbulent period for
the club, which has suffered two relegations in three seasons and faced
scrutiny over alleged financial rule breaches. While Leicester avoided
punishment on their top-flight return last season, a separate EFL case remains
unresolved.
Sections of the fanbase have grown critical of both Whelan
and director of football Jon Rudkin during the recent downturn.
Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha will assume interim
control while the club searches for a long-term successor.
