Morecambe Takeover Agreed
Morecambe FC owners Bond Group have reached a takeover agreement with Panjab Warriors in a move aimed at securing the future of the suspended National League club.
The Shrimps have been unable to start their season, with their first three fixtures postponed due to concerns over the club’s ability to meet financial commitments.
Panjab Warriors had already received EFL approval for a takeover in June, shortly after Morecambe’s relegation from League Two, but the summer has been overshadowed by uncertainty. Political pressure mounted on current owner Jason Whittingham, with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy urging him to sell and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer calling on all parties to “do the right thing.”
In a joint statement, Panjab Warriors and Bond Group described the deal as a compromise in the best interests of Morecambe, its supporters, and the community.
“This agreement paves the way for continued stability and a positive future both on and off the pitch,” they said. “Final legal documentation will now be prepared, with immediate steps to inform key stakeholders, including the National League and the club’s management team.”
Both parties expressed gratitude for the patience shown during negotiations and said they were looking forward to “a new chapter in the club’s history.”
