Northampton Town Post £2.995m Loss Despite Record Revenue

Northampton Town have reported a pre-tax loss of £2.995m for the 12 months ending 30 June 2025.

The figure represents an increase from the £2.03m loss recorded the previous season, despite the club achieving record turnover of £7.541m, up by more than £800,000.

The rise in revenue was accompanied by a significant increase in costs, with the club’s playing budget rising by over 20% during the campaign.

On the pitch, Northampton finished 19th in League One, five points clear of relegation, with Kevin Nolan replacing Jon Brady midway through the season.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "The figures show the challenges we face in terms of football financing and in particular the inflation of player wages,"

"We have continued to fund the club and maintain the highest playing budget that we can, while trying to keep the reliance on owner funding and losses to a level that does not risk the short, medium or long-term future of the club.

"We support the move towards a more sustainable future for both the club and football in general.

"That remains difficult to achieve in the current climate but we are encouraged by the formation of the Independent Financial Regulator (IFR) and believe that a new distribution model alongside effective changes to spending cost controls will be necessary to help to achieve sustainability in the future."

The financial period also saw infrastructure development, including the opening of the LCS East Stand at Sixfields, increasing the stadium’s capacity to more than 8,200.

Profits from player trading also rose, increasing from £256,409 to £478,098.
